Quail 101

How are they as far as maintenance? Surely they can’t be as much maintenance and messy as my ducks?:lau

You are asking the wrong person though..I'm a little on the nutty side.
I don't do poop.
That being said I keep my quail on a wire floor and collect the poop in trays under neath.
Doesn't take me but 30 seconds to dump the trays.
I only clean it a few times a day.

They are flighty little things. This is the best picture I could get without scaring them into flying into the ceiling. What I think is the male is behind the red one. He has a lot more white on his head.
Those are Bobwhites, if they are this year's hatch, they won't lay until next spring. They are seasonal layers. You might be able to "force" them to lay by artificial light but that isn't healthy for the birds.

From the pics it appears you have 4 females and 1 male. The pic is kinda dark in the back but the reddish color bird is a Tennesee Red! It's another color mutation of the Bobwhite.

That’s what I looked up and thought they were. It’s kinda cool looking!

This is what she will look like when she’s an adult. She doesn’t have a beard yet....
