I’ve read a lot of discussion on the proper humidity for coturnix quail. My little guys go into lockdown today, Ive kept them at 45-50% (closer to 45%) what IS the proper humidity for lockdown??

This and nothing else.
Oh okay! Yeah this is first time I’m hearing 30%. That is good to know though. If they turn out all messed up, which I really hope not, I’ll know where I went wrong. I did my first batch last year at 45% and all of them were fine except one. Thanks for the input! So safe to put them at 55% during lockdown? Also, I got recounted my days and they go into lockdown tomorrow morning.

45% should be okay but 30% has been much more successful for me and is easier, I have not needed to add water until lockdown. Quail definitely do better dry hatching.

To be fair I usually lockdown around 50-55% because I just fill up one channel of the incubator and that makes it 50-55%. If you go over 60% though you could drown them quite quickly (it will rise when some hatch don't worry about that).

Okay awesome thank you! I’m really excited for them since they are from my original girl, who’s got such a good temperament and very friendly. 😊 I will keep updates on them once they’re out if you want!

Yes please, always love listening to others' hatchalongs! I am currently on a break after hatching too many last year 😂

I'm trying a no turn dry hatch with about 55 coturnix quail eggs and they seem to be developing okay. My hatch rate is around 90-95% with no turn, but I've never done dry hatch. The humidity went down to about 41 but around day five it stayed 36 and is slowly going up and down it's rather wierd. Any tips on dry hatch?

Lol. It can get VERY addicting! I hatched a bunch of ducks last year too. I’ve very good at hatching ducks and good at finding them nice homes. But I ended up keeping my last batch and now have my two male runner ducks as my buddies. (Only 2 eggs were fertile)
I love my little quail girls. I’ve got 6 girls who are super sweet. They don’t live very long supposedly, so I give them lots of love and attention. I bred my favorite girl, Popcorn who is a jumbo coturnix (classic colors) and this really beautiful grey/white male so I’m excited to see the colors on the babies. I’m about to start building them a really nice ground aviary soon and would like everyone to move in together at the same time so they don’t get territorial. 😀 How many did you hatch last year??
