Here you go.. this is what I'll be making to scrape the poop out of the bottom... Keep in mind the framed wire bottom will be almost halfway up the drum... I think I might drill some 1/2" holes in the bottom for liquid drainage. Poop management should be easy this way. Pull a wheelbarrow up to the pen, scrape the poop into the wheelbarrow then off to the compost pile...

I just got the Idea (with this design) to build it as planned then cut the barrel along the bottom side of the hardware cloth frame then reattach it with 2 or 3 hinges on one side and a latch or 2 on the other. Then when it needs cleaned out just unlatch and dump you could even hose it out if needed.

Yep, if they're plastic barrels and you have a saws-all or jig saw it wouldn't take much extra. just cut it off and put in a few screws for the hinges and latches. I think it would be easier than fabricating the tool you spoke of.

Looks like a pretty good idea, but how are you going to keep the birds in when you flip the end up to clean out the poo ? Just wondering here cause im sure that they aint going to like it when you insert the poo scooper below them to clean.
