Quail pen idea...

I know that I am pretty late on answering this but from what i can tell, you have a manchurian (the one you called buff) in the back and an italian in the front. They are both yellows but one is heterozygous (italian) and the other is homozygous (manchurian).
Thanks, Moby..

O.K... nobody told me that cots lay at night.. I went out to check on them and collected 3 more eggs.. These were "normal" speckled eggs and one was somewhat larger then the others.. Could have been from a jumbo as there is one in that cage..They really are machines.... lol
BTW.. can anyone I.D. the light colored quail in my pics.. It's kind of a light golden color and it's lighter then the buff..(3rd pic down with buff in rear of cage and white on the right.. the quail in question is next to the feeder)..?
Also, in the other pics I got a green egg? I assume this happens but not often or do I have a button or something??

Cool, thanks.. I think one of the 2 are laying a green egg.. Is that normal for any of the non-standard colors?

I have had or seen all sorts of colors blue, grey, purplish, green, and white but generally they are white to cream with some speckling. It could have something to do with how the certain bird processes the nutrients in its feed? Just a guess.

*Update.. Eggs in the bator are due on Sunday 3-18-2012. I guess I'll lock them down on Friday??
I have a very powerful LED flashlight that I've tries candling the eggs with. In some of the lighter colored ones I could see blood vessels and dark spots and was able to see the air sacs in a few. That was a few days ago.. Does anyone know of any progressive quail egg candling pics? I've searched here and could only find pics of chicken eggs..
I put 78 eggs in the bator late on Friday, 3-9-2012.. Fingers are crossed.

I use the chicken egg pics, but do a little math to commensurate the difference in incubation periods.

21 days vs 16 days 8 hours.

I stop turning and lockdown at day 15, I use egg cartons to hatch to hold the eggs in upright position and stop them from rolling all over the place. bump the humidity a bit to 60%, sit back and watch the popcorn.

good luck Bigs!

just I had set eggs and thought I knew when the hatch was. When I read your post I had run to the calendar in a panic thinking I was not ready for new chicks yet

. Silly me!!If I don’t wright something down I will lose track.

We want to see pic’s of all those little birds!

Absolutely! I'll post pics when they arrive.. I guess it will be Sunday night? I set them at 4 PM on the 2nd and counted the first day as Saturday the 3rd.. I just want to be sure I'm around when the activity starts. I'll stay up all night watching them.. I get a little obsessive about theses things, it's just my nature. HaHa
