Quail pen idea...

nice friend!

Thanks, Moby..

O.K... nobody told me that cots lay at night.. I went out to check on them and collected 3 more eggs.. These were "normal" speckled eggs and one was somewhat larger then the others.. Could have been from a jumbo as there is one in that cage..They really are machines.... lol
BTW.. can anyone I.D. the light colored quail in my pics.. It's kind of a light golden color and it's lighter then the buff..(3rd pic down with buff in rear of cage and white on the right.. the quail in question is next to the feeder)..?
Also, in the other pics I got a green egg? I assume this happens but not often or do I have a button or something??

Right on!
I had/have no intention of getting into colors.. you know I'm in it for eggs/meat.. They were just nice, healthy looking birds so they were thrown into the carrier.. haha.
Yeah, that guy did make my day.. I've already offered to get some of the jumbos I'm getting to him for his kindness.. We'll have to see how many hatch but I'll take care of him one way or another and I'll have another batch close behind the first..
Also, being that he's not too far away, I can call him if I need eggs or birds to fill orders..
BTW, do your cots lay at night?? .. or was this because they were moved today??

mine usually lay in the afternoon and evening. but I have lights on them until 9-10pm. and they will lay almost as soon as new sand hits the tray.

Well, day 2 and mine appear well. I collected 7 eggs today, not bad for a 2nd day here. I'm afraid, now that I've had time to look closer at them, that there are more males then I originally thought. That's fine, I'll pick out the better ones to keep, if any, and cull the rest when my jumbos hatch. I did have to move the white one. As it turns out it is a male and he was mounting the little buff colored one so much that she lost a bunch of head feathers and was bleeding a little and didn't look well. A few hours later and she was looking better...When I moved him he quickly began frequent crowing, I guess he really liked her a lot... haha
I think they are all eating and I've seen (most of) them drinking. I added a little greens for them and I'll have sand boxes and mealworms for them tomorrow... So far, so good..

HahA.. I just checked and found another green egg.. It HAD to be laid just after dark... These things are great!.. :)

Thanks, Moby..
Question, do the green eggs indicate anything? They are all coming from the same pen so I believe it's the same hen laying them. They are slightly smaller then the others and I have one really small girl in there but they are all wild pattern...
Another question, If I hatch eggs from the girls I have, would they all be wild pattern or do the weaker traits show up randomly?.. I ask because I see folks breeding specifically for certain colors..
