Hello! I moved my male coturnix quail from breeder pens to somewhere else so the females could have more space and also relax a little bit as the weather is hot. The second day half of them stopped laying. Could they be in stress since they were seperated?

It might all so be the heat

Quail are a bit odd…..any change in environment can cause a pause in laying. You may also want to keep an eye out for potential predators that may be contributing factor with the heat and removal of the male. They usually resume about 2 weeks after a major change once they feel comfortable again

They live in a well ventilated enclosed environment safe from predators. The only change recently was the new layer feed I switched to gradually but it was more than a week ago. If it takes too long to start laying again I may consider changing back to the previous feed. I'll wait and see. Thanks for the answers...

For the record, I built an outdoor pen for my quails. When I brought them back, most of them had already started laying. They have their tunnels, rest area covered with fresh spruce, sandbath area, and daily changed water and food.

They are happy with the environment; however, I saw their eggs two months later. :p It seems quails need a much longer time to adapt to the environmental changes.
