Quail Water

Quote:
so, you are recommending the plastic orange ones rather than the SS metal ones? and you've used both? i think this will be the way i go. it is said to work for "game birds" and this is for coturnix quail.

thanks Model_A_tractor!

I bought ~12 of both, I only used the orange ones after staring at them both in the bag for 10 minutes, the SS ones are 2 part, the nipple comes out, if you tilt the thing you could lose the nipple. I was able to get it to stay by bending a small piece of galvanized wire into the thing but I never used it, fell in love with the orange ones. I am about to go suspend another 2 liter bottle into a brooder now give them something to do.

to me, the nipple also gives them something to do, its just a drop of water at a time, so it takes em a second to get a sip. like Dirk said very crisp and clean too...

Try this before you order from anywhere.... Cheapest I have found anywhere for the same nipple, shipping was super fast and they even gave me some free gloves to fill the flat rate box. I have mine set up so I can water from outside the cage and it only took them about 5 minutes to figure it out. simple to install, drill a 11/32 hole in the pvc and a little teflon tape and they haven't leaked a drop.

The one that I am using is called a 360.....Once the first one figured out that there was water in it, she got run over by the crew coming to check out " the new toy ".

I am using it with quail. I have it just above head level and they actually seem to enjoy pecking at the nipples. It is a 360 side action, so just about any angle and they will get water.

For people who use the nipple waterers:

i'm wondering how high to put them for adults; one week; two week and three week old cortunix quail. esp the younger ones.

Here is photo of the type i'm using:
