hello,
i have two female king quails around 4 to 5 months old, i got them mostly for pets but also wanted to breed with them but problem is they're not laying any eggs and i was wondering why?
cheers

My girls will only lay when they want to have chicks. They'll lay a clutch (mine lay 9-10) then sit and hatch. I hatched some last December and they have only recently started laying eggs (at 7 months old) despite being kept indoors.

They need light, good feed and a stress free environment. I think around 12 hours of light makes most of mine lay, but 14+ might be needed to make them start.
The feed should have at least 19% protein and they should have crushed oyster shell or a similar calcium supplement available at all times.
In order to reduce stress, they need a large cage with places to hide - shelves, fake plants, tunnels and such. Mine don't seem to care for actual houses.
I think the earliest mine have startet laying is at around 10 weeks, but I'm not too sure about that.
