Quality of ideal poultry 's birds

where do you get your feed summersville mill?, whats your oponion of phillips agri in taylor co? and i have only been in central farmers 3 times the store is always closed, you venture out to hart co, much?

I know you're asking about hens, but my Ideal BR experience is males. I got BR packing peanuts from Ideal. They have been healthy and hardy so far. They shipped 15 packing peanuts with my order, 14 arrived alive, and all are now 13weeks old. They were fed starter feed for 8 weeks, and are on chick grower now.

I don't know how large the females are, but so far my males are really quite small. We're going to butcher them, and have been planning to do the deed around 17 weeks. That gives me 4 weeks to work on size and the amount of meat on their puny little bodies. They're not large at all - much smaller than my red sex-link packing peanuts were from McMurray at this age. I hope they're not totally tough by the time they've got any meat on their bones.

I don't know if this correlates to hen size or not, but I would think that if I got any BR females in this bunch, they'd be tiny compared to my last BR girls at this age.

With the BRs, the barring is usually bad and the males aren't deep bodied and broad like they should be, though on occasion, you may get a fairly good specimen. Hatchery birds are fine if you are not breeding to a standard. They are usually healthy and lay eggs like any other chicken. I have SLWs, GLW, BRs, RIRs, Buff Orps, New Hampshires and one banty Cochin from Ideal. The rest of the flock is from breeders. I dont plan to get anymore hatchery birds, unless I just want something in particular I cant get from a breeder.

I have bought a lot of chickens from Ideal (I buy chickens for presents)

I like that Ideal has such a wide variety!
they have a great custumer service also!!! they will fix what they can!

Other hatchery I like is Meyers in Ohio their chickens do get bigger & they have Great prices on cornish!

I work in E'town so I do most of my shopping their. I am never home when Summersville in open. I buy my stuff from The Hardin co Milling. I get purina scratch for $10 a 50lb bag. I then supplement by adding other grains (split peas, lentils) and veg scraps. I used to buy my feed (pigeon grains, grit, etc) from feeder supply in Etown but their prices doubled literally. My water is green/taylor. I am not aware if any breeders in the area other than one guy in buffalo who hatches often. Where is the lady in black gnat? Not that black gnat is so big lol.

the question was about Ideal so, I thought I would share my corny email I set them this morning!

to sum things up - in not being able to find breeder stock Brahmas last week I order some Lights from Ideal for next month!

in the Fall I filled out wanting to know when Buckeye's were in!!!
Well seeing I had an order Teri emailed me if I wanted to add the Buckeyes!

I just thought that was neat! so speaking of Ideal!

I just feel like I am dealing with someone I have known for years! and always puts a smile on my face!
