when do they start coming in?
And before coming in, are the feathers in its place just normal and rounded for both hens and roosters?
Are there always feathers there before the saddle feathers actually come in?

Im not sure if Im wording this correctly.

I’ve read that they don’t come in til later so does that mean they just have normal feathers until they do?

9-12 weeks Yes, they are rounded for both genders before male specific saddles come in. And yes, they come in after the birds feather out.

Thank you so much! I have one in question that shows every other sign of being a roo minus the saddle feathers. When I checked I noticed they were rounded but they’re only 7 weeks old and currently molting. So I was curious to see if they were all the same until then.

Absolutely.
They have pointed feathers growing at the neck area. Their crown is bigger and more red than my others. They walk with their chest forward. Have red coming in on their wings and shoulders. And started making a very deep raspy oo oo sound today that I’ve never heard from my other definite pullets. which is what made me question it again. I know all of these don’t indicate and she may be a pullet as I am still learning. But when looking at other posts of “pullets” that ended up being Roos, their saddle feathers were rounded first too. Which made me ask the question. But here she or he is.
