Question about the ads on the right of the page

Sorry in advance if I am posting this question in the wrong spot. I need to know how to stop the ads on the right side from showing up. I was told there is a way to do that, but I cannot find it anywhere. I went to my profile, and various places. Please help!

Hi, thanks for the question.

Like the majority of websites on the internet, the ads on BYC keep our wonderful site free for our visitors to use. Unlike most sites though we provide our members with a way to upgrade their accounts to enable them to turn off advertising. You can do this by purchasing a Premium Feather Membership: https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/byc-premium-feather-membership-upgrade-pfm.47730/

Please keep in mind that hosting and maintaining a site like BYC is very expensive. We know many visitors do not want to see advertising. Some people block ads, but we appreciate visitors that upgrade their membership to a PFM. This is definitely the appropriate way to use the free services of the site without advertising.

We try VERY hard to find chicken-only advertising, but it's very difficult to find enough niche specific advertisers that are interested in sponsoring a site like BYC. When that happens we need to turn to third parties (like Google AdSense) to supply the ads, and unfortunately we have much less control over what ads they display.

With that said, we're always working very hard to have related and appropriate ads on BYC, so if you see an ad that is inappropriate (compared to other sites on the web like Cnn.com Yahoo, etc.) please let us know!

Ugly - Loud - Annoying - Inappropriate Ads:

To find and remove the ad we need to know as many details about the ad as possible. We work with many ad networks which makes it difficult to track down who is showing a specific ad.

If you see an inappropriate ad, here is what we need:

1. A screenshot of the ad on the site (how to do a screenshot)
2. The time & day(s) you saw the ad
3. The "click URL" of the ad. One way to get this is to hover-over the ad and right-click and copy the link URL.
4. PM to a Staff member or email to Support

(Note: for the ads that are inappropriate that slip through our filters, you probably won't want to click the ad. Hopefully you can still grab some info about the ad to make tracking it down easier)

Again, we are anxious to make sure these kinds of ads don't sneak through, so we need as much info as possible to remove them.

Thanks for the information. The ads don't really bother me. I just thought I could see more about the other BYC's here for some reason. I love this site, by the way. A lot of information, and a lot of fun to boot!!

I don't mind the ads at all ......... i realize that ads are needed as you say ....... and sometimes use them .

BUT = when you go on BYC and can not move your mouse without setting Off a Live Loud ad that takes the Entire Page it becomes a Night Mare ....... NoWhere on the Internet do i see this in any shape ,form or fashion ...............

Like i said i don't mind ads but to be held hostage and have to pay a ransom because the byc page works like a "landmine" is out of this world ..................
and i don't think i'm over re-acting

I would not say a word if i were not trying to enjoy byc but i'm old , w/disabilities and parkinsons and this live ad is just aggravating beyond comparison .

I keep my computer on mute unless specifically listening to something, but I've seen ads that do this on several sites -- and I really don't do a lot of web browsing. At any rate, if you can identify these for us, we will try to get rid of them. See post #2 above. They aren't supposed to be here.

I go all over and don't think i've ever seen this before . I'm thinking it's probably not something one would forget when it takes over your whole page but what do i know , lol .

The dove one is the one driving me crazy... I'm all for helping others with self esteem- but it blanks out my entire BYC page, holds it hostage til the ad plays, and THEN lets me x it out so I can get back to BYC.

Thanks for posting as i was about to think i was the only one . I see You are in Florida ..... do You think it is trying to harass just us southerners ? (lol) ....
I've never seen anything like this before and it works kinda like a virus !!

It has been annoying the mess out of me the last two days LOL Maybe its a southern-hater who made the ad!

I finally jsut told the hubby I was getting the membership before I broke my monitor punching the ad off ROFL

Thanks for reporting this. I haven't seen the Dove ad yet, but am keeping an eye out for it. Can you take a screenshot of it holding things hostage and we'll try to get it resolved asap!
