question about turning eggs and not turning eggs

Some will hatch and some won't. Exact odds are hard to say. If you have access to cheap eggs and don't want too many chicks then I would try it. I would not risk doing it with expensive eggs though and you will have a lower hatch rate. The only thing that would put me off doing it is that there is a slight risk of deformed chicks. Without turning the yolk gets shoved against one side of the egg and the chick can't grow normally. Then the egg either quits or the chick comes out deformed from growing weird.

? I have a couple of questions..?

what kind of place do you work at where they just happen to have a bator setting around ??

Do you know the make and model of bator ??

Is the bator a 110V or 220V ..
check the plug.. If it is just like your household plugs, it is 110V.

If the plug has flat blades that turn at odd angles , like an electric clothes dryer plug , it s 220V ..

you cannot interchange the plugs.

many of the old floor models are 220V

If you can set it up where you turn Days 3-7, it would be best. This is because these days are the most crucial for turning (important for the circulatory system).

My honest opinion, they'll be fine. There are plenty of people who believe turning is not neccessary at all. Mine have gone for a day or two w/out turning when we've been out of town and we've always had at least 75% hatch rate (in 7 yrs.).

75% on non shipped eggs isn't a spectacular hatch rate. If I get under 90 I wonder what went wrong. I've broken open eggs that didn't get turned and quit to find the chick stuck to the inside of the shell. On earlier eggs that also weren't turned well during storage you'll find the yolk stuck in the shell. Even after you break the egg and pull the end completely off the yolk won't pour out but will hang there and slowly come apart. These eggs never develop very far. There are also a few threads around of people who have forgotten to turn and majority I've seen have had to put down a deformed chick or 2.

Yes some will hatch and most will be fine but you should expect a lower hatch rate and be ready for the potential of a deformed chick.

Awww, I don't want deformed chicks.

That would be sad.
It is a normal plug, 110 volts.
I work in an old school where they used to hatch chicks for developmental studies. That's why we have the incubator.
It ends up that I may not need to try it now, as one of my friends has gone and splurged on a little incubator, still air, styrofoam chest type with the egg turner.
But if they are going to get rid of it, I'm going to ask if I can have it or buy it, as it would be fine fun, lol.
Thanks for all of the advice and ideas.
