Question for those of you who use wool hens

Yeah. I just put the thermometer on the top....or should it be under where the chicks are? They still haven't come out that I know of but I put their food next to the cave and I've seen them eating it at least.
Can you get a picture or two of your set up?

I know the box is too small now, but I'm working on getting a bigger one.

I was thinking about removing the glass panel in this coffee table and wrapping it in wire, but I'm not sure if it will be big enough. Otherwise I'll have my husband build one or try to find a dog crate. Temp on top is now at 95 but it's time to come down to 90....

I think Texas Kiki was talking about the heating pads having Teflon on them, not the wool hens. or maybe I misunderstood...
Pork Pie is telling me to forget about heating pads all together and use wool hens.

I think people over heat chicks on the regular.

I think that 70 what ever is better than 95F, for sure.

@futurecrazychickenlady This is what I would do it I were you with that little box right now.

Lay the heating pad over one side of the box, so that it is up against the side and reaches all the way to the bottom of the box.

HOLD....I'm going get a picture right now. BRB

I'm back.

I would hang/attach the heating pad to one side of the container like this...leave just an inch or two on the bottom and cover it with a towel.
IF the chicks are too cold they can lean up against it.

I can't tell too good what is going on in your box. Are the chicks in there?
There is NOT enough room for them and by attaching the heating pad to the side will open up a little more room but you have got to find something bigger quick.

There are 5 in there, but they are growing super fast
I know....forget about adding heat.
Work on getting something bigger for them to live in today.
You are going to have more problems arise with them being in that small of a space.

Are you sure they are eating and drinking well?
Coccidiosis...keep an eye out for it.

Thanks for the help :) I will put the heat lamp back on until I get this box built.
