Question of the Day - Thursday, October 31st, 2024

I have cracked a screen or two on phones. I may have drop a laptop or two, but when I consider the thousands I have handled then it is expected that I at least drop one at some time.

I did drop my phone in the river when on my boat. The water was like 80 feet deep so it got to keep it.
Usually laptops survived. I dropped my trusty Latitude once and it was sort of messed up around the casing but it worked for years after that. Still works but has been replaced by a more modern device.

Yeah, I have dropped a few that didn't really get damaged, or just very minor damage.

High pitched noises really bother me. I had my current NAS make a high pitched noise and I ended up figuring out how to silence it.

Before that it was a switch (thing with ports on front for networking) and it had really loud fans with a high pitched noise. I have replaced the fans. It's amazing how much better I feel without high pitched noises.

I can't imagine having sensitivity to those noises AND tinkering with computers as much as you do. It sounds hellish!

It's hard at times. Most of the time it's usually pretty short term high pitched, but there are times where it isn't.

Fan noise is another problem. Some fans are really unpleasant to hear. Others are not.

I do want to build my own PC next time I can afford to, and I think I'm going to go nuts on silence with it. My current one makes quite a bit of fan noise and the fan control seems wonky to me.

Depends on what you mean by break? I've never broken a computer or phone before where it stopped working, but I have dropped my phone and cracked the glass. I also once dropped it (but it was a different phone) into a fish tank and it didn't work for weeks, until a friend told me to soak it in a bag of rice. But it never worked perfectly well again.

My husband built a couple water cooled PC, and they're so quiet I sometimes don't realize they're on. I get the impression they're pricier, but I think he figured the cost would be worth not having to worry about finding one of his computers in a fridge one day.

I should say - no, it was not a computer I killed in the fridge!
