Question of the Day - Tuesday, June 3rd, 2025

Sister Kay, fifth grade. She was just really understanding and very nice. In highschool, no doubt it's Ms. S-F(won't say her full name), 9th and 10th grade English. She was one of those teachers who was really meant to teach. She loved every student and made being in her class a lot of fun. My one sister and I were in the same class and when my sister got pregnant and got too big to fit in the desk, Ms. S-F had a table brought in so my sister could be comfortable. She recently passed away suddenly and we went to her wake. It was very sad but I'm so glad we did

All my elementary school teachers were great. I went to school in a district where the parents were very involved in school activities, and they also expected kids to respect their teachers and would whoop you if they heard of you doing otherwise. That makes all the difference. If the parents don't care, it doesn't matter one iota how good the school is or how great the teachers are.

Today's question: Who was your favorite elementary school teacher? What grade was it?
Hands down it was my fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Hobbs!
I was a seriously ADD kid back when no one knew what it was. Mrs. Hobbs recognized that I learned differently and upped her game to keep me interested and on-task. She encouraged me to complete my classwork by allowing me drawing time when I finished early - always horses! On REALLY good days, we'd "talk horse" at recess. I lived, breathed, ate and slept horses ... and she and her husband raised Thoroughbreds. I was in Heaven!
We stayed in touch well past fourth grade. We corresponded regularly, even after she and her husband (and their string) retired to Florida while I was in high school. That bond was so strong that I honestly think she's the reason I work with children even now. I loved that woman!

My favorite teacher in elementary school was actually not a teacher. She was the school nurse, and as a disabled person, I ended up spending a lot of time with her. We actually became good friends, but lost contact when I moved up to middle school.(it was a year before I got my first phone)
I actually saw her again recently. I was at an awards assembly for my high school’s graduating class, and I guess she was there because one of her grandkids was also a senior.
