I would love to see some proof GMO's are good for you
You are trying to argue that GMOs are bad for you by using the same strategy that Big Tobacco employed to claim that cigarettes are good (because you said it is). Everything you have posted is unsupported by scientific evidence or proof. However unlike tobacco use there is a ZERO casual relationship between GMOs and
human health except for impacts like these 7 impacts:
1. GMO or Roundup ready soy, corn, cotton, sugar beets, canola/rape, alfalfa, grain sorghum, etc has resulted in a dramatic reduction in top soil erosion from wind during both plowing and tillage. There are benefits for humans in this. Not only are we conserving our precious top soil that we depend on to feed ourselves, there is also fewer soil particles or dust blowing in the wind to irritate the lungs of the young, the old, and those in between.
2. GMO or Roundup ready soy, corn, cotton, sugar beets, canola/rape, alfalfa, grain sorghum and hopefully wheat, has resulted in a dramatic reduction in tillage passes by farm equipment, and a resulting reduction in fossil fuel use.. This has resulted in a whole new genus of farm crops called "Low Till," "Zero Till," or "No Till" crops. This has resulted in another HUGE reduction in erosion. This time the reduction is a reduction in water erosion. At one time you could get a free farm by standing on a low bridge with fine mesh dip net and dip good farm land from the water as it goes racing down stream to the ocean. Now our water ways are much clearer and our farm land is still 'down' on the farm where it belongs. Roundup Ready crops have also resulted in numerous cover crops like annual rye grass being planted after fall harvest and these cover crops results in green manure or organic fertilizer at spring planting time. This is the type of agricultural practices environmentalist recommend but the anti-GMO environmentalist never mention this because it is not part and parcel of their agenda.
3. At one time as many as 10 to 15 applications of DDT derived insecticides or worst were applied to cotton each and every growing season just to knock the pink bowl worms' nose in the dirt. Now a fragment of a common bacteria found in profusion in the very dirt that you chickens scratch or dust themselves in has been spliced into cottons' DNA. This supplies protection from caterpillar species who harbor ambitions of becoming moths by feeding on cotton. This cotton variety is known as Bt cotton.
4. The same thing is true for corn. There is a Bt corn verity that kills the European corn borer which BTW is the same moth species called "the pink bowl worm" when it is found in cotton. There is a Roundup Ready corn variety, and there is also a corn and cotton seed variety that is both Bt treated as well as Roundup ready.
Besides since the early 1940s the VAST majority (90% or better) of all corn seeds planted on American farms has been hybrid seed corn. Only a danged fool of a farmer would save corn seeds that he had raised from a hybrid corn variety and plant these corn seeds the following year. The problem is that this will likely result in a total or almost total crop failure as some corn stalks flower at different times and rates, resulting in poor pollination, and none of them produce as well in following generations as the 4 or more verities do when they are combined in just one seed.
5. There is even Bt bacteria organisms sold in bulk that are purchased by organic food producers and applied to their crops in wholesale amounts. Organic farmers are also allowed to use the herbicide Roundup to burn down weeds before they plow or plant because Roundup is short lived in the environment.
6. There is a lot of gnashing of teeth over the lowly but lovely honey bee. The huge reduction, (did I also mention the great reduction) in INSECTICIDE use on Bt crops has been a life saver for the honey bee. I aught to know because I keep bees. The Anti GMO side are telling bald faced lies anytime they blame any honey bee decline real or imagined on Bt crops. It isn't so. For every "expert" they drag out of the woods to make these false claims there are 100s of beekeepers who keep 1000s of thriving bee colonies in the midst of a sea of insecticide FREE transgenetic corn or cotton.
7. The tropical fruit called papaya is attacked by a virus that causes numerous brown or black spots on its skin. The solution was to splice a small part of the same virus' DNA into the papaya's genome and the presence of this gene causes the papaya fruit to produce its own immunity to the virus. You can view it like a self manufactured and administered papaya vaccine. I will freely admit that this virus is not dangerous to human health but it does have a negative impact on the price papaya farmers get for their papayas or how long they can stay on display in the grocery without becoming gross.
Regardless if you eat a GMO papaya or an old fashion low tech non GMO papaya, every time you take a bite of papaya you are eating this virus. However if you are eating non GMO papayas you are consuming the living virus and if you eat a GMO papaya you are only eating one or two genes belonging to this virus, the rest is just papaya and nothing else.
Please respond with 7 reasons why GMOs are evil. Notice that I used only reasoned scientific information, not emotional red herrings and most of what I posted is derived from my own first hand experience but not a bit of it came from an anti-modernity web sight, or from Monsanto.
I hope that none of you take my humble words for any of this but I do hope that you will do your own unbiased research. Have a good day.
