question on homeschooling

I have to say I did send my kids to PS for a few years early on. My DD went through to the 5th grade. (This is the year where the kids are starting to "hook up". They are on the lookout for a BF or GF) But how my DS was not handling the 2nd grade is what convinced me to get them out of the PS system. He was losing his self esteem, and was so angry. I have a DH that is severely traumatized by the PS system, and there was no way I was going to allow that to happen to my kid. The oldest complained some about not having the school friends, but with hooking up with the local HS group we had enough friends to stay very sane.

We were blessed to have a HS group that was not overly religious with its members. It was easier for more families to join even if they didn't believe exactly the same way as a number of the families clearly believed. The group was great about finding things to do that didn't just teach the kids same old tired things. We didn't need to make every holiday a group activity. We found things like space camp, and Pioneer life experience. It was a lot of fun to go on field trips with the kids.

Real life is a great way to learn.
