Question on my Brahma's Colour

The difference between buffs and lights is that buffs carry gold and lights carry silver.
Silver and gold are sex linked so a hen can only be one or the other. They can't be a mix of both. So when mixing the two patterns a hen will come out one or the other depending which gene she gets from her father.

I do not know about the Australian Standard, but to me both look rather like Brahma crosses as neither their posture nor body shape seem to match and the buff lacks the required feathering of the middle toe.
That makes sense and explains it.

Thank you. This has had me wondering for years. It does make sense. I'm pretty sure the breeder had other breeds so this is a reasonable explanation.

Thank you for that link. I am really interested in genetics. However to confuse things it says that a cross between a buff and light brahma would result in light (hiding buff) males but the females would be normal of each. And Matilda is most certainly a girl.
I can’t help with your question, but I wanted to say, I have a Buff Brahma named Matilda too!! 😍

Do you mean between two brahmas? We've sort of established that hens can't produce that colour between buffs and lights, unless you have any ideas?
I imagine they can produce a color like that, though it isn’t common. I’d assume the off-white shade is due to autosomal red, which is non-sexlinked red/gold.
