question prolapsed vent or anus blood everywhere

well...she made it thruogh the night again...she is one tough bird! I do have her cage covered with a room darkening curtain so hopefully that helps. I will know this morning when I reapply and push in..I can usually feel the egg by the morning if it has formed. I will keep you posted. I received a note that it is 50/50 so I will keep going a few more days if she doesn't seem to get ill or be in pain in any way. I also did change her feed to mostly corn and calcium with just a little grain to stop the feeding too. I can't tell how much she is eating because she keeps spilling her bowl! Stinker. I will keep you posted....Keep good thoughts!

Still looking for thoughts as far as now...she has made it but the prolapse is still hanging out, it is smaller, and we have had success with the egg production issue....there is no egg in there as of right now and I can usually feel one each day by now. So, question is about the prolapse....it is turning a strange color and is getting very hard. I think it is because it is having so much air all day long. It doesn't necessarily look infected or anything like that, but, if it does turn gangrene or such....will I know it? Right now, it feels almost like it is scabbing over. She is still looking fine and acting OK.

Shoot, that doesn't sound so good. I think if the tissue dries out too much it will start to die and there won't be much you can do. The only thing I can think of (and I'm just brainstorming here, haven't tried this myself) is to add a bunch of vaseline to the antibiotic ointments. I *think* the vaseline should help keep the tissue from drying out so fast and I don't think it will hurt anything.

I will do that on this trip out to apply all the creams. The other thing that I have to keep an eye on is that this morning it almost looked like instead of "poop" draining out....it might have been a white creamy liquid and that makes me nervous for infection.....She doesn't seem warm and her eyes and mouth look fine, but, I am going to reapply and see how she does....

well I decided to let her out for a few minutes to free range with the rest of the crew. She usually stays out the entire time and won't return until bed/roost. She went around for a few minutes and then went by herself into the run....now...apparently, she has taken herself into the coop and back into her crate....that can't be good...

well I just don't know what to think. I thought for sure that we would lose her last night (I don't know why, just did) but she is doing well this morning. She is eating some bread, drinking, roosting properly, still doesn't appear to have a fever. I cleaned her up this morning and the black hard stuff is a giant scab (I read an article on this on one of the main links here on the home page about prolapses...the second one down) I was able to peel some of the scab as suggested and it is beautiful red skin underneath. It also said to not give up as if she is doing "ok" it could take up to 10 days. we are on day six. There is still no egg so the light and feed changes are helping. that is good news! I added petroleum jelly to the routine as well for future reference. I also had cut all of the feathers around the vent and lower because it is just such a mess with all the products and pooop, etc, just much easier and CLEANER for her too! The big problem is that there is still NO TONE to her vent whatsoever. It is an open hole. Even when you push the prolapse back in, it just remains agape. I am cautiously optimistic today. If she can hold on, I am anxious to see. I told her this morning to just stay with us and give us a chance. She is obviously stressed and doesn't understand all of the "hugging" that goes on while her butt is in the air getting all this treatment!

I hope she's continuing to do better this morning. Sorry I haven't checken in the last couple of days. I've been thinking about her, but I'm working two jobs right now and haven't had a chance to do much else.
