We want to track the indoor/outdoor temp and humidity stats for our coop. (not insulated, there's a wide range of variables in outdoor weather. We think tracking the temps/humidity will help us know what the chickens are dealing with and whether or not we have adequate ventilation, etc.)

Device on hand: "ambient weather model no.:WS 10."

issue: inconsistent reporting, i.e. the lines for the three stations [top of coop, outside / inside top of coop / chicken height inside of coop-] do not report in a consistent manner.

We've done all the trouble shooting and are positive there are no " barriers" to the read.
FWIW, we are tech and data savvy.

Question: What do y'all use that you are pleased with?

TIA!

I take it you want to be able to read the information from inside the house? I use Walmart $9 hygrometer. Works great but you have to go outside to read it to where it's mounted.
have you checked at Lowe's? Lowe's carry several weather stations . we own one and we can read it from inside the house what's going on outside. might want to check there.
Best ,

thanks Karen, yes, we need to be able to read from inside the house and want multiple stations outside... I'll check Lowe's when I'm in town tomorrow thanks for the reply!

Have WS0101, with 2 remote sensors, and it worked pretty darn good for a couple years.
Now it won't read the remotes.

They are tricky even when new, read the directions, if you don't power up each component in the correct order at the correct distances it will not work.

Will follow along here to see if someone had found a good one.

that's the same company, different model.
We've returned ours and are looking further.
One person in the household is absolutely a data IT geek - directions are always followed explicitly but thanks for the reminder <G>. Some beasties have no threshold for non-linear procedure. :(

Hello, I have tried numerous different weather stations from our coop to the house. Some work for a bit, some don't work at all. Some work really well. I havent' found one that works really well yet. I have found that if it says it is good for a hundred feet, halve that and that is probably what it is good for. I'd also suggest paying the extra money for a more expensive one. I know price doesn't always mean better but I have bought lots of cheaper ones (because they were cheaper) and they didn't work well at all. Good luck with this and let us know if you find one that works really well.

thanks for the input. I'll keep you posted. So far nothing has caught my eye.
The one we had for the coop was fine - when it worked. My frustration was that one or more of the 3 channels would go out, the "fix it" didn't work.
That's not good enough IMO.
The coop is within 50 feet of the house, there are no metal or earthen barriers. Specs on that model were 100' to 300', depending. We were well within those parameters.
When it did work, I was happy to see that the indoor/outdoor temps and humidity were consistent. I want to know the extremes and use the ongoing data to indicate any issue with coop ventilation etc. Our climate can be extreme.

I do like to keep a log of what is happening one year to the next <G>. Sub zero temps/triple digits, chinook winds, ashy Summer sky etc.
It is interesting to me to note when the honey bees are out, when the cranes come back, are there elk in the yard, what birds at the feeders, and now, which pullets are laying and where... Perhaps this would be of interest to others, usually not. (Except when somebody moans about something in February and I can pull out my notebook and say, "well actually, we're right on track" <LOL>)

You are so right. People have short memories when it comes to weather. Around here, its always...its so early for this temperature (happening right now). We always get snow in October, not much but snow. Good luck with your record keeping. I have a weather station in the coop right now that seems to be working but it is brand spanking new so I'll keep you posted in how long it lasts for.

Which weather station are you using now? I miss the recording of the variations! TIA
