question

Secure coop and run for the chickens.Live trap cats and have AC take them.If you catch anything else dispatch them.Even in the ghetto there are *wild* animals.Set up a game cam and see what visits the yard at night.
Sorry for your loss!

I live in a city and my flock was attacked by coyotes. It is highly irresponsibile for you to leave baby chicks out in the open where a bird as small as a blue jay could pick them off. If you were talking about MY cat, you would have a bit of a problem, because I would call the police on you for a delibrate act of animal cruelty.

The solution is to be a more responsible chicken owner. Animals owners are utlimately the ones responsible for the death of their own animals. Our flock was attacked because we didn't think through the coop set up and it cost us dearly.

Ah... willingness to take responsibility for a mistake and learn from it! You've provided an excellent example here. Thank you!

Judging from what you said, shooting it wouldn't help so catch it and take it to the shelter

Umm.... yes. And secure your chicks better. If you live in an urban area, isn't it illegal to shoot anyway?

Your welcome. Stuff happens - fix it so it doesn't happen again. We had stupidly used the perimeter fence as a coop wall and the coyotes dug in and our dogs couldn't get to them. Move the coop.

People need to take responsibility for their errors instead of blaming a cat for acting like a cat or a hawk acting like a hawk.
