Questions! Building 5x8 coop

Yea, the egg if laid from the roost is in my case they are always broken even when I had the roost 6" from the poop tray. Remember hens stand up when they lay an egg so the distance is a lot further than when they are resting on the roost. I use Sweet PDZ but I guess if you used straw it might not break. I have 8 RIR hens and get about 2 eggs a month laid from the roost. I keep track of my eggs with a spreadsheet (talk about nerdiness).

I will definitely make it easier on myself and go with a taller roost then. You are such a nerd! I think it’s awesome. I have a spreadsheet in my head but I only have 4 to keep track of ;)

I can attach a copy of my xcell spreadsheet if you want to gander at it... Did you see my nest box egg camera?

Yea they don't get much privacy with all the cameras on them lol...

Get over it.....really....or your poop board will be out into the doorway.
That would annoy the heck out of me!

Yeah it would me too! As long as I don’t gain any more weight I’d be fine... but Christmas is just around the corner.

Oh! Unless I make it 6 feet instead of 8... right?!? Then I’d have at least 2 feet of walk in space before chipping my hip. Or maybe 4 ft along east wall and extend an extra foot or two along south... or make it along the 5ft south wall only? But that seems like too much wasted space

Sure! I have not seen the camera.. it saves a trip out to the coop. How neat! Now the question is... do you watch chicken tv from your phone, computer or tv? :p

The photo above is from the nest box camera that is a USB camera plugged into the Raspberry Pi 3B that controls the coop automation. Hmm I don't seem to have a photo of the camera in situ but this link is the one I bought. I think it makes me make extra trips from the shop to the coop during the day lol every time I see an egg I fetch it and weigh it and enter it on the spreadsheet... can't seem to get all my work done.

I view all my cameras on my PC's but I have once looked at them on my phone. All are on my LAN and not exposed to the internet.

The spreadsheet is 2007 excel, if you need another format I can at least save it as a CVS and maybe other formats it I think...

That format works! That’s quite extensive but it keeps you on your toes so it’s perfect. A busy mind is good! My Sapphire Gem has been laying huge double yolkers. I wish I would’ve weighed them.

I have a small Bluetooth camera I was thinking of mounting in a corner just to keep an eye on them. I’d have to run a cord but I’m considering it. I’m trying to figure out where I can make a weak point to shove an extension cord through... maybe in the eaves? Double HC one section. That’s the only place I can come up with.
