Questions for Setter4 - Cremation - You MUST be respectful!!!

I'm glad to hear that you found someone who would help you do what you needed without charging you a fortune. No one would want their floved ones to go in debt to bury them. An unexpected death can put a family in terrible debt for years.

I know in England it's catching on very much. You obviously need planning permission and I belive that it has to be placed on the house/property title if anyone is buried on the property (traditional or green).

Very informative thread...thank you MissPrissy and setter4.

I specifically had my wish for cremation put into my Last Will and Testament because my husband does not agree with it. I knew that unless I specifically stated it, he would not do it. I also sent copies to my lawyer, my parents, my sisters and a close friend. My personal reason for cremation...I see no reason to take up valuable space on this Earth, I do not wish to be put into a box and buried and three ... I hate enclosed spaces. Also the expense...my goodness funerals and burial plots and so forth are expensive. Just fire me up in a cardboard box for 800.00 - 1000.00 and forget all that flower, casket, etc etc stuff that will cost my family 5,000.00 - 10,000.00. Just not financially worth it to me.

setter4, do you remember situations where a court order for cremation was necessary to uphold a deceased wishes?

Egg-sactly! Whatever is low cost and quick, simple way of disposing of the flesh, I'm not in there anymore anyway.

I did not know about pre-pay and pre-sign, I'll have to look into that option here in Canada. I guess since they have your money the price is locked in at today's rate?

Yes, you would have everything locked in and if you have a life insurance policy you can sign it to the funeral home and they will refund any amount over what is needed to your family at time of need.

We all lose someone sooner or later and we all deal with it differently. Sometimes being able to talk about it can really help us heal. I can understand that this might upset some people and I am sorry that someone was hurt.

We have cremated people with pictures, books, fishing rods, teddy bears, food, cigarettes, you name it. The only thing we care about are things that can damage the cremation retort and to the best of my knowledgethere are no laws about this.

WOW!
This is the most interesting thread ever!

My question is.

Is it legal to scatter?

Thank you for being so informative!

I know this answer only because I just went through it with a friend whose father passed and wished to be scattered in the rockies. Some places require a permit to scatter the ashes on land. I am unsure of water though.

I see why NOT! You can be buried with anything but maybe with an exeption with a beloved pet (some folks DO put their old friends down at the time of death and they would be buried together but this is rare).

My aunt was buried with a photo, some jewelry and another photo of altrasound of her first grandchild. It was so sweet!

Lot's of people are buried with the cremated remains of a beloved pet who died years before.

Soryy, but YES. You can not legally scatter them any place but your own property without permission.
I'm SURE no one ever scattered ashes any place like the Outer Banks or the seashore with out asking!
