Hello All!
Please help. I am having the summer from hell with my beloved flock. They have been wonderful for 3 years, and this summer has turned into a summer full of chicken lessons. Through it all this forum has helped keep me sane. I'm hoping for more support now
Today I went to the coop, and on the poop board was disgusting round worms! I had noticed poopy butts a while ago... I treated for various other things as poops looked overall normal just more watery in some. They are moulting so i thought that maybe.... Our rooster numbers arn't ideal right now so i thought maybe my lower girls were a little stressed....It's been hot and muggy so I thought that... I always use vinegar in their water (and had been slacking a bit) so for the past couple months began being more diligent with it again. I also feed the girls garlic when i can think of it. I am going to post a picture, but based on research i'm pretty sure it's round worms. They free range daily, have access to a million worms, and slugs. We have been working on drainage in our back yard due to all the rain this year, and so they have had a ton of fresh dug soil to scratch through.
Here is my plan (after researching here): To treat ASAP with Wazine. I'm going into town tonight and will try to grab it.
Here are my questions : Should my second treatment in 2 weeks be wazine again or should i get a diffrent one like safegaurd and use that?
I am worried about the variety of sizes in my flock. I currently have 14 chickens. 1 has two small 4 week old chicks. 1 hen has 5 that are not quite 2 weeks old. 2 are broody, and have been sitting on eggs for almost exactly a week now. They both appeared healthy, and well when I set them on eggs. Coop was cleaned totally, and I have been using DE in the corners and nest boxes.
Can I let my broodys continue to sit? should i treat them with the wazine too? Their poops have shown no signs of worms, and were not of the hens with watery poos. I would be super bummed for them to not hatch. My salmon faverolle who is sitting now is the whole reason I got roosters! They are due on 8/5.
What do I do with all the worms on the board? Are my chickens going to eat these? Do I start a fire, and burn them? I am beyond grossed out. They are currently still on the board. I just put a glass jar over them so they can't get away, and am letting them cook in the sun.
How do I clean my yard. This chicken must be pooping them everywhere right? I have read that if i find them like i have in only one poops other chooks most likely have them too. correct?
Finally can my dogs get these worms?
I think this is all my questions for now? Please give any advice as soon as possible. Shopping for medicine overwhelms me. Usually natural methods work great for us. i am diligent with the coop cleaning, and scraping poop boards. Just trying very hard to get my flock health back in balance!
