Someone told me they saw a video where the person said that quail will freeze into their water if you leave an open pan, so the person made winter water bowls from plastic Tupperware type bowls and cut small head holes in the lid for them to drink from. Your quail probably decided to play in the water and got too cold.

She is dry. Quail are dumb enough to play in the water in the winter. When ducks do it, it’s nature. When quail do it they are idiots.

I still have not found the heated waterer I’m looking for. The quail don’t play in it, and it’s a certain brand that isn’t garbage. I know it when I see it.

I probably need a heated waterer. My waterer froze yesterday and when I tried to get the ice out the waterer it cracked. Luckily it's just a seven up bottle waterer so I got a new one.

This is where the other fowl are easier. I have rubber bowls and heated stands for them. Ironically, I have no power to the big coop anymore. I intentionally built a quail pen by the house because it’s a wind block, next to the cellar door (easy access when I need to check them in nasty weather) and next to an outlet. I can also hear them if I open the kitchen window.
