I went out this morning and Scratchy was not in her usual spot, so I looked for her at the rabbit warren and there she was~ Lifeless.
So I phoned a ranger friend who told me that the Calisi virus has reappeared with the drought breaking.
The virus has been dormant for 3 years with the drought.
Now that the rains have started again, the virus is very active with flies and mosquitos carrying the virus into town.
Now I didnt realise that the virus was spread so easily otherwise I would have vaccinated them.
So Now ive lost dear little scratchy too.
I have Snowy inside still until i can get her to the vet, they wanted to charge me $65 for sunday consult and $9 for the vaccine.
My bush vet has quoted me only $15 for vaccine but she's not there till tommorrow, so hopefully snowy will be fine until then.
On a "sort of" better note, the calisi virus kills rapidly without horrible side effects.
Oh well another crappy day!
