R.I.P Heidi

nearly 2 weeks ago, my silkie chicks finally arrived. I had ordered eight of them with my mom, three partridges, two buffs, and three whites. When I placed them in their brooder, I warned them about our shih tzus. "Watch out for Alex and Ginger, I don't trust them at all, but don't worry, I promise I'll protect you."

I named the three partridges Heidi (Because when I opened the box, I couldn't find her), Wings-That-Spread-So-Far (AKA Wings. She always spreads her wings), and Princess (Because she acts like one). I named the three white ones Marshmallow, Charolotte, and AnneMarie (The smallest). And I named the two buffs Caramel and Cadbury.


Today, I went to Shoney's with my dad and sister, my mom stayed home to clean. After we ate, she called and told us that the shih tzus had jumped into the brooder. All of the chicks had managed to jump out and hide... All except Heidi... Alex grabbed Heidi and killed her.

I failed my only job as a chicken mom, I didn't keep them safe. I don't think I'll ever forgive myself. Rest in peace Heidi, you are forever loved.

My first and favorite rooster died because of a dog. And his death was when my cousin died. We will not get dogs again because 1. I am not a dog person and 2. THEY ATTACK MY CHICKS AND CHICKENS!!!!
