Rabbit forum annoyance

I agree with the majority, either try to treat the rabbit yourself or eat it.

Sure I have very expensive chickens but I wont spend hundreds of dollars just for a visit that I can easily do it myself unless I want a "hands on" vet visit that the vet can teach me how to treat it. The max I will treat a chicken at the vet is $100.00. That is the most I've spent on my Welsummer hen that I really liked to keep her for breeding when she came down with a very stubborn bumblefoot last year. She is all well now.

Like RoPo said, your wallet and heart should tell you what decisions you can make in your pet or livestock.

The rabbit is doing very well, hoping about, eating, drinking, and lounging. Leg is splinted and wrapped (has been for a couple days now), just in case. I made the decision to move him back in with the other rabbits, no problems, but went instantly back to the dear old 'I hate you' attitude she's had since I got her. Everyone else, cuddly. This rabbit, 'no touchy'.

I am willing to pay for veterinary expenses. Just not for a rabbit thats showing no signs of pain or discomfort, has normal stools and urine, and is eating and drinking fine. The joint flexes, he doesn't cringe or squeak when I apply pressure or move it, and theres no obvious grinding noises.

To me, a rabbit is livestock, not a pet. It provides food and leather. I do give my rabbits the best care possible and I understand that I do sound heartless by saying "I am not taking this rabbit to a vet" but would you take your CHICKEN to a vet if it had a broken leg or impacted crop? I bet 7/10 people would say 'No. I will treat it myself. I love my bird, but the cost is just outrageous for something that I can just as easily treat or eat'

I know that most of us would love to be able to take our babies to the vet everytime something, like this happens, but its not always affordable to do so. In times like these, money is so tight. The OP didn't sound as though they couldn't care less about this bunny. If they really don't care for it, then, yes, find it a good home. Who are we to judge what someone should do? Yes, certainly step in, if there is TRUE neglect. If they really DIDN'T care for this rabbit, do you think that they would have even inquired about it in the first place?

I agree with rusty, I grew up on a farm/ranch where my dad would never consider calling a vet for rabbits or chickens or any small stock that could not produce enough to pay the vet bill. In his estimation and mine it would not be worth it.

I have one neglected looking rabbit, I buy a lot of neglected bunnies with hock sores and weight problems that I then find homes for if they are even rehomeable at all.
This one is one of the worst. Turns out she has epilepsy and seizures are triggered if you turn her over (I checked for testicles without turning her, found out she has seizure issues when checking for sores or long nails). A side effect of it is lack of muscle tone, she just can't keep good weight no matter how special and carefully crafted her diet. She's very happy though, and will be humanely put down with a slow-leak gas system when the time comes. She looks like she has another year or two ahead of her, though.

I just don't care for the Dutches attitude. I like the rabbit for the beauty and sheer adorableness, but the lack of friendliness is rather annoying

Not even treats and gentle pettings can convince this girl that I'm not going to eat her for lunch.
