Rabbit with swollen mouth! *Abscess: anyone know how to drain?*

The puss is supposed to smell bad. My rat's abscess smelt REALLY bad and was greenish yellow. If there are more, they need to be flushed out (term my vet used for popping an abscess). Put her on antibiotics. A vet is the only other suggestion I have or you right now. Those abscesses MUST be popped.

I mean, if this were a dog, or even my cat, I would definitly bring her to the vet. But we got the rabbits with the original intention of raising meat rabbits. The other two are gone now, and we never followed through with original purpose of raising meat. She is my pet, but I have 7 or so other pets that are just as special and I would do my best to take care of them. There comes a point, however, when it just doesn't make sense to pay a vet bill for so many animals. She is not a lap dog. This is why I don't have a dog or horse; I don't have the resources to care for them. That said, she is really special and I am doing what I can to at least ensure she has a happy rest of her life. I do appreciate your help and support as well.
If she is your pet and you want her to get better, you really need to consult a vet. A mass on the face/oral area can be many things, and most are serious. If you succeed in draining the abscess, it most likely will not cure the problem, as it is likely that your rabbit has one of 3 things going on that has caused the abscess: (1) dental abscess - that will get worse over time until it poisons her body and kills her. (2) cancerous/non-cancerous tumor - will keep growing and cause suffering. (3) systemic disease that causes the abscess.

Now, I know you said that you would take your dog or cat to the vet, so I guess you can take the rabbit to the vet if you choose to do so. I suggest that if you wont pay a vet to look into this matter that you end your rabbits suffering rather than put her though the stress and trauma. Its really is the best choice if you can't take to the vet, your rabbit has a serious problem that is not likely to be fixed with your at home procedures.

so, if she was another animal (dog or cat) you would take her to the vet? Turn her over to someone else who will give her the care that she needs. Just because she was originally purchased with the intention of eating, why does that make her worthy of cruelty? And, yes, denying medical treatment is cruelty - likely even a crime in your area. Here in AR, it is a felony.

Please, all we ask of you is to make one or two trips to the vet. I understand its costly, but the longer you wait, the costlier it will get. I am trying to be nice, but you are not listening. If you can't go to the vet, PLEASE give her to someone who will treat her. This is my last and only tidbit of advice and I suggest you take it before its too late. I am sorry for being repetitive and compulsive, but you need to do the right thing for your rabbit.

I understand not taking it to the vet, (I wouldn't either), but this has been going on for quite some time and it really is not fair to the rabbit. If the antibiotics are not working and the bump is showing no signs of improvement, then it's time to either rehome or put her down.

My Lifesaver: Amber tecnology's Vibactra Plus - Natural herbal organic antibiotic alternative.

It's amazing and made for all animals. I prefer it to prescription antibiotics. I've saved lives, Healed wounds, shrunk and eradicated abscesses and more. It is a nutraceutical so no prescription is required.

It attacks bacterial viral fungal and parasitic infections. I keep it on hand at all times. When I see a problem I start right away - Sooner you start the quicker it works.

One of my rabbits recently had the classic abscess under the chin - Many have heard all the surgical horror stories about this. I use this product and the length started shrinking until it disappeared and there was no problem whatsoever.

If you understand what you're treating, you will have more power, less fear. Vets do not have all the options - They very limited in their thinking - use them fir diagnostics, surgery when no other option is available. Nature has provided most of the solutions for our problems. So much so that those many of the medications on the market are actually synthetic copies of what nature has already provided. Vets only say this is false because they don't know what is out there. I suggest finding a holistic vet who would help you with both aspects of medicine and give you a balanced approach.

If you don't have access to a holistic vet this one product will be invaluable to your medicine kit. I even use it for myself - If the M.D. prescribes Antibiotics, even for surgery, I smile and grab my bottle of Vibactra Plus. I share this only because I want you to know how well I have found it works.
