Raccoon attack! Help!

Racoons will avoid a property where dogs live. We lost a whole flock three months after our dog died.
Get some barking dogs....

I have three dogs. The husky will fight anything that comes into the yard. The mix has a voice that echoes through the whole neighborhood. They do not like raccoons.

They also don't stop raccoons. The raccoons come back if the dogs aren't outdoors with the chickens. So just having dogs around, even raccoon aggressive dogs, will do nothing if they can't be out with the chickens when the raccoons are out too.

So this is probably not totally accurate advice to give. FWIW.

Haha this might seem like a silly question, but can I take an electric animal clipper to the feathers around her wound?

I would use scissors to trim them, but you may also pull them out if necessary. Electric clippers could cause more problems and to me, wouldn’t be accurate enough.

I work as a dog groomer and clip livestock, so I’m pretty accurate with a good clipper, but if you think so then I’ll use scissors.

did you get the racoon? if not, you have to do something to get ride of it otherwise he will come back again for sure.

I did not. They are not on my property, and they have a guard dog that will chase him off. Unfortunately, the dog did not get let out that night. I moved the chickens into a safe place until I can get my coop back at home finished. If it was my farm, I would want him relocated/shot for sure.

Heading over the the ranch now, I had my friend check on her this morning before class and she was doing better. I’m planning on washing the wound with betadine or iodine, Whichever I can find, applying vetricyn and triple antibiotic ointment and feeding her plain scrambled egg to encourage her to eat. Anything else you’d recommend?

Update: she is doing better! She has her head held higher and even pooped a healthy poop. I’m am trying to get her to eat some lightly scrambled egg.

That is food news. Try offering a small bowl of wet chicken feed with a lot of water to get fluids into her. Plain yogurt or buttermilk can add probiotic and make it intersting. Also dry feed, chopped scrambled egg, and those can be altered with tuna or salmon. Canned cat food is sometimes good if they won’t eat the other foods.
