Raccoon Baiting

Pics
I got all mine (3)using raspberry jam. Put it in a small catfood can that I wired in to the back, middle of the trap. Apparently they had a sweet tooth as they were raiding my oriole feeder too,

I release in a wooded area a few miles away.

A few miles? Your probably trapping the same coons. Coons have been known to travel 30+ miles back to where they were trapped from.
Also, your only making your problems someone else's problem when you drop them off somewhere. Not to mention, most states it's illegal to relocate wild animals.
If you can't or won't kill the critter, leave it alone.

I release mine to the great raccoon nest in the sky--a .22 short to the brain does the job and then they take a dirt nap. First of all it is cruel to relocate them into another coon's territory--not to mention illegal--then there is a 50/50 chance not only will they come back but will be trap-wise. Also, depending where you release them, you're just handing your problem to someone else. Having lost a dozen or so birds(and numerous corn crops) to coons I fail to see any cuteness nor feel bad about it. It's not like the world is going to run out of them.

There's a raccoon that's been wandering around the neighborhood killing chickens, and I'm trying to help my neighbors trap it.
They have trap that looks sort of like this:

What bait should I use? Any tips? Thanks!
Marshmallows, cat food or chicken Feed. I always put syrup over bait for the smarter coons. Coons will try to pull bait through slots in trap. I also stake trap down. An adult coon will tear up a trap if it's loose and able to move , roll etc. Good luck.
