Raccoon visit

The other thing I read on another thread: someone posted that raccoons are like rodents, in that if you can see one, there are a lot more out there you can't see ...

Well my trap-- a standard single entry raccoon-sized havahart-- was set last night next to the coop with a very inviting fish head as bait. The fish was dragged to the other side of the cage and the trap door was tripped... but no Rocky inside, the little devil escaped. I will try again tonight.

try attaching the bait to the back of the trap, then they have to work harder to get it meaning they have no time to escape before springing the trap.

Well, sleepy me I did catch something... The little bugger was curled up against the angled door so I could not see him when I was standing up. And yes, he was playing his role. I guess I will leave the trap out a few days and see what else shows up.

Regarding the whole in the ground. It is time to put some kind of barrier under the coop so when they try to dig in they hit your barrier and give up.

Jim,

Looks like you have a few animals for show and tell. My attitude is a quick kill will never have the problem again. Some are not as cold as me and would release in the wood 25+ miles from where they were trapped. Good job!! Just a note raccoons travel in families and that means moms, dad and kids need to be bagged!!

2 grown ones and 3-6 young ones most of the time they will live on about 2 miles square their territories overlap somewhat so on each side of one family another 5-8
