Raccoons in the winter?

i live in Canada and was told a story about raccoons in the winter, (i always thought they just sleep all winter)....

In some ways winter coons are more active than during Spring, Summer or Fall. On bitterly cold days with no clouds or wind coons will come out of their den trees and Sunbath on the tops of large tree limbs. A quite creek bottom stalk looking upward and with your eyes peeled for a bushy tail hanging down will pay dividends in the form of fewer chicken predators.

If you are going to trap them, use marshmellows as bait. If you are live trapping, know WHAT you are going to do before setting a trap (and have the means of following through)

In Michigan, it is illegal to 'rehome' live trapped animals (and IMNSHO immoral), so I send them to the big garbage can in the sky.

Depending on your location, raccoons are pretty tasty (in other words, if they are eating stuff other than garbage). In 2009, I was laid off for 9 months. We trapped the raccoons that were causing us issues (we lost 200+ in 2006-2009). Three weeks and 24 raccoons later, we had no more problems.

Out of the 24, we ate prolly 20 of them.
