When I was little my dad worked at a place that pigeons EVERYWHERE!!! And one day he came home with a box in his hand and was like surprise!!! Well in the box was a baby pigeon that had fallen out of his nest. so I took him and gave him some seed. he wouldn't eat it at first, but eventually he got the hang of it. after he grew up and learned to fly, he would follow me everywhere!! If I'd go walking in the pasture he'd follow me. If i went fishing he'd follow me. One time he even followed the school bus when I got on it that morning!! he was just the sweetest thing ever. well anyways I have a pair of fantails that have layed some eggs and both are fertile, and I'd really like another pigeon like I had when I was a kid, so at what age would I need to take him or her away from the parents and raise it like my own so that it will be like the one I had when I was a kid?

I would wait until the feathers started opening up to start hand feeding them yourself. Really, hand feeding can be avoided if you just handle them a lot while they're in the nest, maybe starting at week 3.
