The first few days, usually paper towels or other absorbent, but flat with traction material (some folks use puppy "puddle pads"). After a few days, I switch to pine shavings.what do you use then all the old timers i know always used newspaper when they have hatched baby chicks and they turned out fine? thanks

Thanks, i would probably have the front walls up but i had some varmint eat half my garden so i was trying to deal with that.

I had a lovely garden last year... this year I used my fenced off garden as a grow out "play pen" so there is nothing in there - but chickens!! Next year? We shall see.Ugh!! I have a very small garden/raised bed this year with only a few tomato plants and had some pepper plants that the rabbits ate very early on. The deer chewed one tomato plant that they could reach easily. My cherry and tommy toe tomatoes have done great, but the big tomatoes have been slow. Yesterday I noticed several that would be within a couple days of picking.... until this morning, the deer found them too.![]()
Ooohh, so exciting!! How big are their eggs?Good news to report! Yesterday I got my very first Call duck egg from my girls! Right at 20 weeks old. And today I got 2 eggs from them!!![]()
