Raising Baby Chick-Along

Pics
I spent the morning with a lady who bought some of my barnyard mix eggs (which are selling almost as fast as my girls can lay them - go figure). I think I convinced her to become a byc member - I like this place, plus I've learned a ton being on here - and she's incubating for the first time so she really must join - right??!!

Good on ya !!! :highfive: How funny though, since I've been doing the same thing! :yesss: Sold 4 of my 8wk old pullets today and turned at least three ladies onto BYC. One is a duck person. Talking to two other potential buyers, both wanting 4 or more. Does this make me a professional chicken farmer? :lau

Ooohh, so exciting!! How big are their eggs?

I just so happened to have taken a reference pic this morning lol
Little greenish egg on the bottom is the call duck egg. Plus i found 2 more that she had been hiding in her house, so apparently she has been laying for 3 days now. :D

Very cool pic! I love the comparisons! Love, love, love the sweet broody+baby photo! So sweet! It's got me excited for Lucy's babies due soon!

Ugh!! I have a very small garden/raised bed this year with only a few tomato plants and had some pepper plants that the rabbits ate very early on. The deer chewed one tomato plant that they could reach easily. My cherry and tommy toe tomatoes have done great, but the big tomatoes have been slow. Yesterday I noticed several that would be within a couple days of picking.... until this morning, the deer found them too. :he
Well my garden is fenced but only 4 foot high. I started cutting tall branches to stick in the fence so it looks taller. And i ran a steel wire between them and hung strips of white cloth from it. Hoping it will make them nervous and keep them away. Ordered a solar fence charger, hope it comes soon. I am also putting small rocks along the outside of the fence to make digging in more difficult.

Big girls now, and most are going to new homes tomorrow.

Have you tried hanging pieces of bar soap (Irish spring, dial, lever 2000) in stockings around? I find the smelly deodorant types work well.

I am not sure it is a deer, could be a woodchuck. But it couldn't hurt.
