Raising Baby Chick-Along

Pics
I just had a lady send me pics of the chicks that hatched from a menagerie of eggs she got from me for her broody. Pretty fun,and quite a guessing game since I had a different roo as flock master during that time.

I love to see chicks hatched from my eggs, or happy birds at their new homes. :)

I sold a pair of seramas last year when they were 7 weeks old. This year, the hen went broody for him, so he was letting her sit. But a raccoon got her and all the eggs! So the owner contacted me for a replacement hen. I sold him one of my solid black hens. He set her first 10 eggs in his incubator (would have been fertile from my roos) and he hatched 7 chicks, and they all looked different from each other! Showed me that I've probably been doing some wrong guessing on parentage!

This morning when I checked under Lucy Maud (the light Brahma I caved in and let have some eggs..she just is so earnest about this whole thing) and she had 5 eggs. I gave her three and a couple hens thought she needed more. The only problem was that I hadn't marked the original eggs. So, candler to the rescue. Three are developing nicely, and two hadn't developed at all. So I marked Lucy's eggs and took the other two out. I have a lady coming by today to get some eggs for her broody - so these will have a bit of a head start!

It's funny, but when I lose sleep over "What the heck are you doing with 100+ chickens out back?!?!" I wake up in the morning and go outside with them and think, "Wow, I love these little flocks of mine!" And, they all have plenty of room, houses to sleep in, lots of food, etc and they seem quite happy. So, why can't my "sleep-losing self" get on board with my "I love these birds" self???
My chickens make me so HAPPY! :celebrate I look forward to coming home to them each day...I think of them often! I enjoy just watching all their chicken antics, soak up their love of lap time...they just make me relaxed and happy! So the way I see it. If they add to your life, you have the ability to care for them all happily...then GO FOR IT! Life is too short...gotta live it up!!! I LOVE MY GIRLS

And my sister sent these t-shirts to me a couple of weeks ago for my birthday. She knows me. :)
