Hello All! my family and I got our first chicks about 5 weeks ago. We have 4 bantams and have found these forums to be very helpful since day one and so I have decided to join. We have figured out that we have two white silkie chicks, one golden sebright and one buff brahma. I have been doing a lot of research in trying to guess whether we have pullets or cockerels. So far my guess is that at least one of the silkies is a cockeral and I am really starting to think our brahma is also a cockerel. Here are some pictures from a little over a week ago.

Chicks don't get gender feathering till 12 weeks of age or more. In the case of silkies, they are one of the most difficult breeds to sex early, the other is Polish. At 4-5 mos. of age some are able to determine silkie gender. Others will still be a mystery until they crow or lay eggs.

Welcome!

It is hard to tell your chick's gender until you hear it crowing or not. Some hens have larger combs so combs don't always confirm it. Just my piece of advice.

Very cute!:love:D
I am still hopeful that we have pullets. I know nothing is for certain at this stage but I can't seem to stop guessing and second guessing lol
