Raising Pigeons

O.K. ya'll my pigeons are trying to hatch one more time. This makes there 4th try I think. I don't really know what day they went to sitting this time because I have been pretty sick with my eating disorder for a couple of weeks now and Snakeman has been taking care of all my birds during this time. Oh I hope they do it this time. That would be just great. Wish us luck!!!!!

Sara, any news on your birds yet? My fantails finally laid an egg, but are not sitting on it.

My homers keep popping out eggs like crazy but it has been too cold to hatch here.

Well guys, try 4 for my pigeons to hatch a squeaker and it didn't happen again. This time we had a few days of 9 degrees weather days in a row. Its getting discouraging for me so I can just imagine how he pigeons feel. The weather is almost spring like now so maybe when they try again it will happen. I want a baby squeaker so bad I can't stand it.

Heres for the next time. If the weather holds out I'm sure try 5 will be a charm.

Sara, try trimming the vent feathers on both the cock and hen, just enough to make it easier for them to mate. It could be that there is too much feathering in the way for the male to adequately fertilize the hen.

My fantails booted the eggs out of the nest, so I know they weren't fertile. However they are all revving up again, so I am sure that they'll get the hang of it.

In the meantime, my pair of Doves keep popping out eggs, but they don't hatch, so I think I may have to move them to a larger cage to give them some more room.

Thanks so much for the idea. I will try that. There has to be something going on here that is holting them back. How much feather should I cut?

Just enough to be able to insure that there is nothing blocking the vent.

Good deal, I will have Snakeman out there trimming feathers just as soon as I can get him out of bed. He is still sleeping. {works nights} Hopefully that will clear up the problem and they will have success on there next try. Good luck on your projects!!!!!

Snakeman bought 17 pigeons today and he doesn't even know what kind they are, nor does the man selling them. One of the pairs has a squeaker and the man doesn't know which pair that is so they made the deal for us to come get the pigeons when the squeaker is raised. WHAT THE

Snakeman could have took a picture of the pigeons on his phone or called me to ask what I thought about the deal, but nooooooooooooooooooooo What I want to know is "where are they going to live since I have chickens waiting on coops now so there eggs will be pure. All I can say is he better get busy with the coop building plus he knows I wanted rollers. Clearly this man can not be trusted where birds are for sale.

Pigeons need food water and fantails will come back in at night they won't really fly too far away either they aren't the best of flyers.... I have some white homing pigeons I will sale for 5 dollars a bird plus shipping and a bpx to ship them if interested... Oh yea they reproduce like there is no tomorrow!!!
