Thanks guys. I’m feeling so grateful that the other chicks have been hatching so well, but sad that Pinecone couldn’t make it out. But this has been my most successful hatch in a long time so I am really glad. But my son is so super super ill today (worried we may have to go to the hospital tomorrow) so it has been kind of a downer day. Thankful that the lavender chickie hatched though and all the others before her! Counting my blessings!!

Unfortunately no, I won’t be able to keep them all. I don’t have the space, sadly. I wasn’t sure if I would be able to sell babies in the winter, but surprisingly I have had a lot of interest in them. I am going to keep only the ones that have the best qualities and sell the rest.

Because there are not a lot of people with chicks right now, I have had a few people contacting me who had a small hatch where only one or two survived and they needed some buddies. So far I have sold 3 babies, and 5 more are spoken for. Of the ones that have hatched, I’m only planning to keep Tinsel (paint NN), Peppermint (black shipped egg), and Sugarplum (lavender shipped egg). So all the other hatched babies are spoken for.

I have a big hatch happening after Christmas, and have had some interest in that as well, which is great. I’m so glad that I won’t have to grow out a ton of chicks! Any that don’t sell will be grown out and sold as pullets/given away as cockerels in the spring.

Okay all, sorry for no updates for awhile. My family was SO SICK with the flu for the past week. So sick that we didn’t even celebrate Christmas Eve or Christmas. It has been just horrible. And still is pretty bad. But enough about that!

I had 4 lavender silkie eggs that were shipped from Back Brook Farms in Maine. I would highly recommend her!! She is very reasonably priced on her shipped eggs, and also packs them in foam shippers! Out of 7 eggs, 4 developed. They all made it to lockdown, but sadly one didn’t pip internally and one didn’t pip externally and they both passed away before I opened the eggs. (Being so sick has really affected my judgement on everything this past week) However, two of the babies did hatch! So I am thrilled about that!

Things have slowed way down! There was an OE that seemed to be just making its pip hole bigger and not able to zip so I helped it a bit, and it hatched. Now there are 3 of the shipped silkie eggs that have pipped but I think might be in the same position so I may try to give them a little hand. There are two of the shipped eggs that never pipped internally so I don’t think they are still alive but I am so grateful for all the chicks that have hatched out today!! I transferred them into the brooder. The one in the front is a lavender chick that hatched a couple days ago.
