So this weekend, in the very icky weather, myself and a friend have been frantically trying to finish my coop. We are both huge harry potter fans, btw...naming all the soon to be chicks after harry potter characters...

ANYWAYS, I have deiced to name the coop....

(drumroll please)

HOGWARTS SCHOOL OF EGGCRAFT AND CHICKENRY!

LOL. I just had to share that...it's too funny!

additional note: the way it is planned out, we are adding a smaller coop (which is really just an old wooden doghouse that has been renovated), attaching it to the run...that will be hogsmeade village

.

I know this is not at all relevant or informative, but I thought I would share the nonsense and fun, just in case there are any other BYCers that love the potters as well

All the best!

Not a big fan but probably because I haven't read a single book or watched any of the movies...but, If this is your cup of tea then enjoy! Glad you have a friend to share in your enjoyments! I think its great! But this thread needs pictures!

well it isnt much yet, just the bottom fram and such, but i have a few pics *scampers off to media file* brb!

OK!

Remember, this is a wrok in progress...these pics are not up to date from saturday...

This is the dog house that was abandoned at our house when we moved in. Hello, Hogsmeade!

This is basically my materials... We have been building from pallets, taken apart as needed by us and reassembled into hopefully Hogwarts School of Eggcraft and Chickenry

And this is some of the work we have done. it is hard to tell by the pic what we are doing, but let me explain a bit...

Basically, this is what is happening...

The bottom part, framed, is going to be enclosed with hardware cloth. The floor to the left is going to continue all the way over until there is about 24" left, and then that floor is going to be meshy hardware cloth. Above this is going to be the roost, and for cold days, there is going to be a poop board cover to prevent drafts to the rumps

.

The actual enclosed part of the coop is going to be about 5' tall., and is a bit more than 7 " wide and about 4" long. The left side that already has flooring is going to have a floor to ceiling door, for cleaning and human access. There is going to be a smaller pop door on the left wall, with a ramp down to the ground, for the chooks. The whole back end (of the yard) and underneath (the coop) is going to be inclosed with hardware cloth, so the run itself is gonna be pretty big. there will be a door in the right side bottom hardware cloth for poop scooping from under the roost where the mesh will be.

And the dog house will have a large door added to the back end for human access, a small door added to the front for security, and a roost and poop board added. This will be a smaller optional coop, for instances of flock integration, infirmiry, jail, etc.

I know it doesnt look like alot yet, so i hope to have better pics and such next weekend. All I could post for now is what I have on my phone

***note: all that mud is from construction and trampling...it will hopefully be full of lush grass, until my chooks go in and tear it all up lol!

I'm a big Harry Potter fan, too, and I love your "HOGWARTS SCHOOL OF EGGCRAFT AND CHICKENRY" Very clever!

So how many chicks are you getting and what kind?

well, assuming shipping goes well, on feb 15, ideal should be shipping 3 SLW, 3 GLW, and 3 BB. A couple weeks later, I will be getting 5 more SLW from a local BYCer. I am making sure to leave plenty of room for more coop if needed! A few chicks will be going to the inlaws in a few weeks though...

I thought it was pretty clever too
