Mattemma, that is a realistic view. The police are a reactionary force. They usually show up after the fact.. It's just how everything is set up. Now to be fair and to be the devils advocate in my own thread....

Folks who are not familiar with a firearm and try to stop a robbery/home invasion have a higher chance of being hurt if the perpetrator gets the gun away from them. This is why folks need to come to terms with themselves and their feelings about using it. The biggest thing any defensive training will tell you is if you pull the gun out, be prepared to use it immediately.

Single female, alone in the boondocks?

You bet I've got loaded guns around! My .357 is an arm's reach from the bed at all times, and my daddy has taken me to the gun club since I was 5, so you can bet I know how to shoot it, too

<---- I should note that this mean vicious pit bull would be useless as a defense tool unless the intruder was a giant snowball

I understand what you are saying Boyd..i saw a post yesterday about this and i wanted to comment on it..(but i behaved)
YOu are right..WHAT good is a locked up, unloaded gun in an emergency? No good at all... So why even have one then if you cant get to it in an emergency? Makes NO sense to me..

My husband and I both have conceal carry permits. I carry a Rugar .45 which I carefully chose for myself. He carries one of a couple .45's he has. Don't bring trouble to me and you won't find trouble. I am not out looking for trouble but if you bring it you should be prepared for the outcome.

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Newton's law of motion.

If you come for me and mine you will get exactly what you came to give to the best of my ability.

Everyone should stand up and protect their second amendment rights otherwise you might find yourself in a fight to keep it some day.

Actually you are breaking Newtons Third Law of motion, because unless you are sure that your attacker is using the same amount of force..... In other words it could go back to the why did you shoot he only had a knife, by pulling a handgun you overpowered his abililtys Sortof like the mililtarys dont shoot till you've been shot at... kind of dumb mentality since that ALWAYS give the bad guy the first shot.

P.S. cross Miss P's house off the list of places to visit without calling first. IRM too.

O the storys I could tell. I have watched(from behind a tree) many a house burn to the ground while we were wating for the amo to burn up.

My kids hang out with the kids of several fire/rescue personel. So I know quite alot of them. They all know this house is loaded and I'd rather it burnt to the ground than any one of them get hurt. Most of the ammo is in one location. Most but not all...

I do have to say, that guns or the ammo can be to blame OCCASSIONALLY.

My father was a trap shooter, everyone in our family shoots trap or has a some point in thier lives. My SIL was qualified for the Olympics a few years ago (that's why Dave has to be good, she's better than he is

I have seen literally hundreds of thousands of shells being fired. And many clay pigeons have died as a result. But I have only known of 1 accident.

My little brother was in his mid 20's. Been shooting for years and ranked rather high in his district (just a little behind his lovely wife) He was at a meet, shooting on a team with his wife and her father and a friend. A shell was defective and blew up in the chamber. The shotgun suffered the most damage but Dave seperated his left hand between his thumb and index finger, similar to a common skier injury. He lost the tip of his ring finger and had some reconstruction of his pinky.

Now, he had to have reconstructive surgery, his hand healed, he still shoots and he does NOT blame his gun or the ammo. It was an ACCIDENT. An unfortunate accident but still, just an accident.

Here he is with his wife, her dad and their daughter about 12 years later.
