Car cuts the Sherrif off getting off the interstate an blows threw a red light. Sherrif blue lights it an it runs. The car drives 7 miles at 100+ in the wrong lane trying to hit cars head on. It passes the state line an turns right on to the first road on the alabama side. as it turns it loses control jumps a ditch, climbs a tree an comes to rest upside down in the rad. Sherrif runs up to the car, gun drawn an kicks out the back glass. There half hanging from the wheel an half laying on the roof is an 80+ year old woman sucking oxigen screeming "SHOOT ME @#$ %^&* SHOOT ME"

I helped pull her out of the car. People having guns may make it easy but people not having them still can get it done.

I will admit my guilt at times. As a tool, I also participate in matches Amateur Trap shooter's Assoc, and my buddy now has me shooting bowling pins against a stopwatch. I will gush on about it at times... because it was something I find fun. Then again those rounds aren't usually designed for hunting or self defense, just killing innocent bowling pins.

I'll also talk about the differences in ammo I have... a Glaser Safety slug for example. It is a purely self defensive round. It is designed not to ricochet, penetrate through walls etc. You have a couple choices of loads also... one designed to ruin someones day, and one to hurt someones day bad. I guess I am proud I know how to match the right tool to the job. Some folks may not know the difference and shoot regular FMJ's without realizing they are shooting through and bouncing off of unintended targets.

Now something I also have on me 24/7 is my leather man. Who would have thought having a pair of pliers handy 24/7/365 was great? I was walking around blindly before I found this one!!!!!!!!

Bad guy gets gun and kills someone

or

Child gets his hand on gun and kills someone

People scream for justice and action (immediate gratification)

Media picks up story and more people run with it

Politician sees and opportunity to get name in paper

Victim's family hops on the bandwagon because they are told by shrinks it will help them cope

So called advocates (politicians and moral busybodies in disguise) jump in

Gun rights folks are now gun nuts

Poorly thought out laws are passed

Gun rights are eroded a bit more

The debates continue, polarizing the masses

The government gets stronger

The "People" get weaker

Someone mentions Heston

Everyone loses

Criminals laugh

Someone leaves a gun where a kid can get it and

The cycle repeats....

I already changed the subject. Sore here too.

Sore here too, but I do think this is an interesting discussion. DH was not too thrilled that I came with a gun attached. But he has gotten used to it, and he is more comfortable than I with the shotgun. I will probably NOT defend against someone just stealing- it's just a thing. But the taking of life? Uhm, don't mess with me then!

Back on topic- I keep guns where children and irresponsible adults cannot find or grab them. Takes a bit of creativity, but I would rather no one find it then a kid with no training!

Here is the part I dont really get about some folks that are "gun enthusiasts". I dont hear folks obsessing about other tools in their possession. When was the last time we had a big rant about the use of hammers, screwdrivers etc etc.. For some reason there are folks that (in my opinion) embrace an obsession about guns, especially about their use in terms of using them against other human beings and shootting everything that walks across the property.

For my money we would all be better served to use this tool in a quieter more restrained fashion and perhaps we would have less focus on restricting their use.

Good Points! I think it's okay to enjoy something, and even to embrace it as a hobby, but it changes when people start obsessing. That goes for anything, not just gun. Humm.....what about chickens? lol

I did think of one analogy though... I know my ammo like some people know different chicken breeds?

I'm a total Leatherman and LED Flashlight enthusiast. I carry hundreds of dollars worth of tools in one little pouch. No one has ever said these tools should be illegal. If they did I'd be a screaming Leatherman NUT.

BTW, I can defend myself very well with my multitool, cut down a tree, and skin a deer too with it.

You'll have to take it from my cold dead hands.
