Rant-- Accountability -- edited for meaning

I don't always carry one on me, because on a small property you can't shoot and be sure you know there's no one in danger. But I keep a shotgun and a pistol handy, because I am home alone a lot. They are kept in "interesting" places, where most would never spot them but I can reach them.

I would never shoot straight outdoors unless in imminent danger- but if someone is in my house and threatening me? You bet.

And yes, this thread is destined for doom and gloom- but truly, most people haven't been trained to use the tools and are irrationally afraid of them.

it's blaming something else that gets to me. A car is just as or more dangerous IMHO. I mean, have you seen my daughters learning to drive????

The accountability is what I have a problem with. Blame what is to really blame.

We have lots of guns and ammo. The joke is if the house ever catches on fire get to the other end. There is going to be ALOT of fireworks. LOL

My father was a career cop and he had several guns and a shotgun in the house. All were unloaded except his service revolver and a small handgun. All were out of sight and reach of small hands.

He made sure my mother could fire the handgun if needed and it was out of our reach in the closet.

We were not allowed to touch it, climb on a chair to look at it or otherwise do anything to bring attention to it.

I have 3 long guns(unloaded but the shells are right there) over my head now at my desk. I have a loaded black pouder 44 revolver in the living room. I have my conceled carry gun in my back pocket 24/7.(NAA 22 revolver) I did have 38 revolver on my hip 24/7 too till it was stolen the one day I left it home. I also try to keep one in eack car too. Actually, Boyd, I find that lack of accountability is a huge problem across the board and one that is getting worse. Back in the day, if a kid poked his eye out, his parents would have said, "Well, you shouldn't have been playing with that stick!". Now days the parents would sue the owner of the tree.

Even the 20-something year olds that I teach have accountability issues. I've already had two email me unhappy with the grade they EARNED and want me to change it to something higher. Apparently it is not their fault that they didn't do the work and turn it in. Again, I
