Rant Warning! Really tired of being harrased over voting.

My 13 year old came home from school yesterday and said his teacher told him to tell me I have to vote today. I told him that it is my choice to vote and I had planned to vote but no one needed to tell me that I HAVE to vote. I did explain to him that it is a privilege to vote and I feel it is my duty since so many women fought to have the right to vote.

I am just ready to be able to watch the news or something on tv with regular commercials. I am so sick of all the political ones, especially the ones that bash their opponent. We are lucky we are way out in the sticks so no one knocks on my door to ask if we voted, but we have gotten phone calls wanting us to tell them if we voted, how old we are, who we voted for, etc.

Well I went out and vote....quite painless LOL!

I didn't like any of them but I resorted in checking the holes for ALL women politicians LOL! Oh, it could not hurt anyway! At least there isn't a Judge Judy among the lot!

We have one important rule in our house concerning voting.....

1. If you don't vote, you can't complain about any politician and you can't participate in any political discussion at our house.

I started that rule when my oldest stepson would complain endlessly about this politician, or that politician. He would go on and on and on......! Finally I asked him who he voted for and he said he didn't even register because it was a useless exercise. I made up that rule and now, if he starts to rant, I interrupt him and ask "Did you vote in the last election?" He says "No." and I say "Then shut up until you have!" It was peace and quiet for a long time ... then he finally registered and voted. Now I have no excuses to shut him up....but at least he knows he has to do something to earn the right of Free Speech.

Remember also, if you go to the polls and don't mark anything (or you skip a particular office because you don't like any of the candidates), it still counts as voting. It just means you didn't like any of the candidates, and that is the way you voted. Of course, whoever has the most votes still wins, but at least you voted your conscience.

I had those calls that ask you if they can count on your support! MYOB!

Also, the one of the candidates for State Senate called me personally. After a 20 minute conversation, he had pretty much convinced me to vote for the other guy! LOL (About the only thing I was impressed with was the fact that he would bother to talk to me for 20 minutes.)

I had ONE that came up to me personally and yes I voted for him for "EFFORT" but still didn't make the wholesale part LOL!

If it was someone else, I would have slammed the door on them LOL! But that day, it stopped me when he introduced himself and alas, not a Jevohah's Witness!

Not sure how well it would work here, but I've found that when people hyping thier religion come door-to-door, if I start telling them about MINE, and inviting them to come to MY church, they tend to go on their merry way...and not come back.

So if a conservative bellringer comes by, start spouting liberal causes, and if a liberal is at the door, expound all sorts of conservative verbiage.

Or maybe a sign:

Solicitors selling a product welcome;

Solicitors for political candidates
or propositions shot on sight!
