Rant...Yucca

I like certain Yuccas and have been known to plant Teddybear Chollas as bobwire. I planted some bamboo in my backyard 10 years ago and it died about the time I decided I didn't want it anymore. I spent several hour digging it out yesterday with a brick hammer. How lucky am I? I guess I love plants so much that they return the favor.

Last year I planted 50 Yuccas....I will be so happy if they accually took root and grow this year!

This country is so extreme.....if I can get it to grow I will plant it!

Yucca grows naturally here, so it I know it will tolerate the conditions of the soil, drought and extreme temps.

I agree, they are quite beautiful. Some people seem to be successful with one if it is planted where it can be mowed around easily -- and where it can't latch onto another tree or a building.

Best way to kill yucca is to water it and fertilize it often. Just love'em to death.

I'm really getting worn out in this battle with Ghetto Palm, aka Tree of Heaven, or Ailanthus altissima. I've pulled, poisoned, hacked, dug, even sicked a dog on one. It keeps coming back.

Yucca???? It is totally and completely illegal here in CA to remove one of those, even if it is dead. The Joshua Tree National Preserve has to come out and remove it. And if you build something, you have to pay to have them taken away and then pay them again to bring them back.

Pretty similar regulations in Arizona, but it depends on hte exact plant and its location. The are a lot pickier on developers than individual homeowners, but there is also a difference between say, a saguaro, and something that grows more readily.

Agave are not yucca. Tequila is made from the blue agave (agave tequilana), maguey is one of several other names for the plant: also mezcal and tequila agave. There are other agaves that can produce a similar liquors, but they cannot be called tequila (nor can any liquor not produced in specific areas of Jalasco, Mexico).

Trumpet Vines!!! The gift that keeps on giving whether you want it or not.

We have a wisteria on one side of our porch off of the front of our house. It is invasive and goes everywhere but the birds like it. Last year we had a cardinal nest in it and one evening a single little cardinal crept out of the nest and onto the branches.
