Rash from ducks??

A while back I got some new pine shavings from TSC. opened the bag up and it got on my arms had long pants on, boy did I start itching all over my arms, never had that happen before or since, didn't see anything crawling on me but just started itching like I was being bitten. But saying this I bought a bag of cedar shaving because I had read that it would keep snakes out of the duck coop this is before I knew better, well I was using my hand to pull out the shavings to spread them around when a brown recluse spider bit me on my pointer finger on my right hand, you talk about extreme pain, started out slow but by the next day I was at the Drs office with my finger swollen and so painful. we were really afraid I would lose my finger, had to take shots in the bottom and have dressing changed a couple times a week lost the nail but saved the finger. Sure don't want to ever experience that again. Hope you get over the itching quickly.

We do not discuss dragons around here.
That's what I call those 8 legged thingys that I refuse to speak of!!!!

The rash looks a little better today, but still itches like crazy.
I hope predisone kicks in quick!!
Benadryl helps but I feel like a zombie!

Well, it's not a super common allergy so most people don't think of it... But then again I am allergic to pineapples which leaves people stumped because they didn't think it was possible to be allergic to pineapples. I'd say you might just wanna stay away for a few days and let yourself recover...
If it IS a duck allergy it may be possible that you can still feed your ducks... Sometimes. Just not nessicerially every day. Many people with allergies can still be around their animals with controlled conditions... Like taking antihistamines and wearing protective clothing or just keeping contact to a minimum. Look at all the people with dog allergies that live with dogs (or cats). But first your body has to finish recovering from the reaction it's having now... If you keep going out with the ducks and it's a duck allergy you'll never get better enough to put a controlled plan in place because the more you expose yourself to whatever allergen it IS while having a reaction the worse the allergy could be in the future.

Good advice.
I also work from home. Hence being able to play on the interwebs all day.
I do it in between helping customers. LOL
I wonder if maybe it's something at my desk?? but I been doing this for over a year with no issues.
The only changing factor is the ducks going free range 2 weeks ago.
I will ask my husband to to the feeding till this clears up.
If I go back to feeding them and it comes back, then I guess I will know.
:(

Don't fully give up hope. :p It could also be a plant in the area that's causing it... I know someone who is allergic to dandilions for goodness sake. So until you get an allergen test done you won't ACTUALLY know.

Wow, i always use/used cedar shaving and never had a spider in with it! Now it makes me rethink what im doing. I may use gloves from now on. my mom got bit like 3-4 times by a recluse. And many other times by other kinds but I reallly dont want to have to deal with that. Gardning gloves here i come! :)

D: Cedar shavings are super toxic to a lot of animals.... I would reconsider using cedar if I were you.
