Anyone know what the best solution to getting rid of rats, I had a humane rat set however she has avoided that for a week and a half so yesterday I went to drastic measures and bought snap traps. I am planning to move my young ducks outside by the end of next week and I don’t want all my hard work raising them to go to waste. Never had a problem before, but my neighbour flagged her garden, moved the shed and disturbed the rats

I put a small cage in the coop with spacing that allows rats/mice to enter but not the poultry. Inside is a dish of rat/mouse poison.

Recently, a snake has moved in; the rodents are gone-so are eggs that were being brooded-two broody hens have also been killed. I think I preferred the rats and mice as they caused less damage, but... Always something.

The only problem is that I don’t want my young ducks getting in the trap.. I don’t think it helps the garden birds kick feed onto thefloor

You do not have a rat problem. You have an unsecured feed problem that attracts the rats. Fix that and the rodents will leave on their own or they will starve to death. Or you can spend the rest of your days buying traps and poisons and not fixing the issue.

:welcome :frow I use poison. I have rat bait boxes in places where nothing but the rats can get to them. Most likely the rats have tunnels. I didn't find any dead rats so I think they went into their tunnels and died. The rat bait boxes have a little window above the bait so kit can be checked often. I had a coop that was infested. When I tore out the ceiling and walls, dozens of rats of all sizes poured out. I tried some different things but was still seeing rats. I have a barn behind my coop and had seen some rats in the barn so that is where I placed the bait boxes. This is what I used and the baits haven't been touched in quite awhile and I haven't seen any rats. This is what I have. Good luck...
