I think Purina and Science Diet must have some kind of deal with most vets. When Luc was in for his first visit at my vet, the vet asked about his diet. I still had him on kibble but said I planned to switch to raw. She was very against it and recommended I stick with kibble and specifically said "I like Pro Plan." I knew I wasn't going to give Luc that but out of curiosity I looked up the ingredient list. Three of the top 4 ingredients are rice, wheat, and soy. If I was going to feed kibble it certainly wouldn't be Pro Plan.

The specialist vet that helped me with my other dogs (she also does acupuncture so I was there several times a month for nearly 4 years) does support raw diet. I trust her knowledge and judgement much more than the regular vet. One thing she told me that really pushed me away from kibble was that the number 1 killer of dogs is kidney disease and the low water content of kibble is a major contributor to that.
There are so many cons when it comes to the pet food industry. Now I’m not saying that the documentaries I watched were 100%, but they were very interesting. Here’s a little bullet point of the cons that I heard about:
  • Less moisture
  • Severely dried out when processed
  • Unnecessary amount of fillers
  • Can say “100% beef/chicken” etc but doesn’t have to list what parts
  • Possibly contributes to more health risks, thus more time at vet and giving them more money
  • Dogs aren’t as excited to eat it
  • Some troubles processing - gas, smelly poop

I remember one morning I just prepared the food for my cats and then read this ad in one magazine. :p

Poor guy! You should look at teh Dogs naturally articles about medical mushrooms for cancer. They also have lots of homeopathic treatments to help with cancer, and an article about chemo as well. I can link some of the articles, but its really worth the read.

Theres another one to that explains Dianne's journey with her dogs cancer. Her dog couldn't' be treated though, but it gives tons of really good information on keeping the cancer at bay.
I signed up for Dogs Naturally emails, so I couldn't' share this as an article, I could only are it in screen shots.

Funny u mention Homeopathy, my mum is trained in homeopathy

That makes sense about it being cooked. It’s also less processing the body will have to do when digesting it, and I like how it is fine so easier to eat. What supplements do you put in there for the vitamins?
Oh all sorts of things. But in particular this green paste (don’t get it on you…it stains clothing :sick) I will get a photo a bit later I can’t actually remember the name of it and Wilbur also gets fish oil (fish oils really good as well)

That’s amazing. Thanks. Another thing we are doing to help him is remove sugars, cancer feeds on sugar so if we pull most of the sugars out of his diet it should hopefully starve it a bit.

Funny she mentions Turkey tail mushroom, we are actually giving him that simply because it’s proven to help. Wilbur has the T - Cell Lymphoma (there are two types and of course, T-cell is the worst 🙄) the prognosis is 6 months with treatment but it would’ve only been a few weeks without. It’s sad in a two year old dog because I read articles and none talk about young dogs, they are all middle aged to older dogs. Very sad. But we are staying positive and just thinking he’s going to be okay, because he’s beat the odds so many times he can do it again

Look on the Dogs Naturally website and consider ordering Immunity. It's a mix of all the best mushrooms to help fight cancer. Theres a ton of good reviews. Turkey Tails is definitely one of the best though, they sell that singular because of it.

Removing sugars is another great point. So cool that you guys already have knowledge in homeopathic medicine, since often the natural approach can work better then some synthetic medications. Your boy is in good hands, he will power through this. :hugs

I just read the first link, that’s another thing we have him on the CBD oil without the THC, (we can’t get that here in AU)
Awesome! I skimmed past yet another article about how CBD really helped cure cancer in someones dog, it was a story about his recovery. I decided not to link it though.
