Ready for the Government Shutdown?!?

Yea wonderful isn't it? If they can't agree to something or get a bill in place to protect miliary pay, we aren't getting paid. Fantasitic. My two kids dont like to eat anyways and my husband loves to report to work without pay.

I believe the most recent shutdown was December 15, 1995 to January 6, 1996 - 21 days. To say the least, it is scary and nerve-wracking. It can also be financially devastating to many government workers, should Congress choose not to pay non-essential employees retroactively due to a furlough. Even if you do live well within your means as I do, you begin to feel like a pawn in a political chess game in which you have no control. Certainly I chose my profession and as such, must take the good and the bad, so I am not whining. I merely wish for a speedy resolution so that I may continue to perform an honest days work for an honest days pay as the public servant that I took an oath many years ago to be and uphold.

That is a big reason why I never took a state job. I don't want to be used as a pawn in someone's chess game. My MIL works for the feds, but I think she'd be considered essential personnel because she is with FEMA.

I really feel for the military families that are on one income. They get lower pay than they should anyway, and it would really hurt to not have that. (Especially in a state like CA.)

My wife and I are both in the Army, they told us to be prepared to not get paid. Since it is in the middle of a pay period, we will get half our normal pay on our next check and then nothing until they fix this. Of course I still have to be at work at 6am for physical training and then a 14 hour work day. Fun times.

What gets me about it is the military won't be getting paid, but you can bet your bottom dollar the senators and congressmen, and president will.
